Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth pier and seafront.

Aberystwyth is a great little seaside town, with plenty to do and see! It’s good for children and adults alike. Besides North, South and Tanybwlch beaches there is the ruined castle, a couple of playgrounds, Constitution Hill with it’s funicular railway and a good museum. There are also shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, hotels, a railway station and various other amenities.

In the summer the beaches are fun, and it’s a good walk almost any time of year. Play on the beach, in the sea or in the rock pools. I’ve even snorkelled off Castle rocks (South of the pier), but recommend a thick wet suit if you like to take your time to see the sea-life! I have sometimes seen dolphins in the bay and once harbour porpoises swam very close in to the beach, almost along side of me!

Aberystwyth Castle

The castle makes for a good trip with children.

Tanybwlch beach

South of the River Rheidol, across from the harbour, lies Tanybwlch beach and a pleasant walk along the River Ystwyth. There is a car park there (a free one). You can see where the two rivers meet as they reach the sea.

All year around attractions

In winter Aberystwyth pier is a great place to see the starling mumuration. There is also a temporary ice skating rink near the castle around the Christmas period, which is great fun for those with a sense of balance and adventure! A small fair usually accompanies the rink.
